The grapefruits are like that here, but not the oranges.

Re: Naranjas

Crazy, huh? Everything in the produce section is always so picture perfect in the states, but not here!

Re: Naranjas

That just shows that outer appearances can be deceiving, eh? ;) Yes, they are indeed very sweet.

Re: Naranjas

the oranges are like that in japan too. but the membrane comes off a lot easier. you can just unzip them. like a ziploc bag almost.

Re: Naranjas

Are you for real? I had no idea! After all they're called oranges - they should be orange. This just blew my mind.

Re: Naranjas

They don't look pretty outside but they look so citrus-y beautiful instead. tell me, are they sweet like navel oranges?

Re: Naranjas

Isn't it the best? I bet you have some wonderful choices or oranges at all those Farmer's Markets!

Re: Naranjas

Not as symmetric and even toned as California oranges, but they do have their own special beauty. :)

Re: Naranjas

I really don't know why sugar is added. The oranges are sweet enough as it is. There is sugar in everything down here! Still, hooray for the yummy oranges! They are inexpensive and I've had fresh juice all week long. :)

Re: Naranjas

Crazy, eh? The juice is sooo amazing.

Re: Naranjas

How cool, Richard! Now that's a gift that really paid off! Its too bad about the lack of yield though. Maybe it has something to do with the depopulation of bees right now?

Re: Naranjas

I love fresh squeezed oj - one of my favorites. I've been making it a lot lately, too. Yum!!!

Cheers,
Kristen

Re: Naranjas

The difference you noted is very interesting. Adding sugar to fruit is a really ridiculous idea.
It looks delicious! Another thumbs up for Costa Rica life!

Re: Naranjas

My mom lives in Florida and has oranges very much like this. Huge, chewy seeds, mealy meat, but exceptionally good juice. We gave the trees to mom and dad as Christmas gifts in about 1994, and their yields were huge until the last couple of years, when they tapered off. We don't know if it's the weather, or if the trees are just played out.
